Second Race for Red raises more than £400!

RaceForRedThumbCustomers and staff at Avalon’s Leisure Centres have helped to raise more than £400 for the British Heart Foundation after a 6-hour-long cycle race.

Avalon Leisure, who runs Frome Leisure Centre, Wells Leisure Centre, and Strode Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre, hosted their second ‘Race for Red’ as part of the charity’s National Wear Red Day on Friday 24th February.

In total, £405.18 was raised for the BHF, who are Avalon Leisure’s corporate charity partner.

‘Race for Red’ saw the different Centres race each other to see who could post the biggest accumulative distance over a 6 hour period. Frome Leisure Centre came out on top for the second year running, cycling a massive 369.65km, just pipping Wells Leisure Centre to the post by the small matter of 4km.

The total distance cycled across all four centres, an astonishing 1,077km, is equivalent to cycling from the company’s headquarters in Street to the city of Milan in Italy.

Avalon Leisure’s Marketing Co-ordinator Brendon Mitchell said: “We would like to thank everyone, customers and staff, who took part in the race and who donated so generously to what is a great cause.”
