Avalon Leisure has selected the British Heart Foundation (BHF) as its new corporate charity partner of the year for 2010/2011.

Avalon Leisure has already built a reputation for supporting and raising money for a range of local and national charities.

Now, for the first time the company has nominated a Charity of the Year partner and its leisure centres will be hosting and taking part in a number of events and promotions throughout the next 12 months that will be aimed at raising money for the BHF.

Heart and circulatory disease is the UK’s biggest killer and approximately 2.6 million people in the UK are living with coronary heart disease.

2011 will mark the BHF’s 50th anniversary; to celebrate, the charity is launching its 'Mending Broken Hearts' appeal, where they hope to raise £50 million to fund groundbreaking research over the next 10 years.

Avalon Leisure Managing Director Rob Taylor said: “We are very excited to be entering into this partnership with the British Heart Foundation.

"We recognize that our leisure centres play a key role within the local community and as a company we have always been committed to supporting and fundraising for great causes; the BHF certainly come into this bracket.”

British Heart Foundation Fundraising Volunteer Manager Lucy Saunders said: “We are extremely grateful to Avalon Leisure and their leisure centres for choosing to support the British Heart Foundation as their Charity of the Year.

"The BHF is totally committed to preventing lives from being devastated by heart disease, but we are reliant on the public’s support and we can only continue our life-saving and life-changing work thanks to the kind support of organisations like Avalon Leisure.”
