Avalon’s Leisure Centres have raised more than £1,500 for the British Heart Foundation.

The company, which manages Strode Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre, Wells Leisure Centre and Frome Leisure Centre, ran a promotion throughout April allowing customers to join as an ‘Avalon Lifestyle Member’ for just £5.

In return, the leisure management group pledged to donate every joining fee received to their corporate charity partner, the British Heart Foundation. In total, £1,500.32 was raised.

A team from Avalon Leisure took part in the British Heart Foundation's Somerset Levels Bike Ride earlier this month - but with a twist!

Rob Taylor, Rob Walters, Steve Padfield and George Stott decided that instead of cycling the daunting 27-mile route like every other competitor, that it'd be a good idea to run it whilst hauling along a specially made red rickshaw.

It was almost a case of last man standing as the quartet battled against the conditions, as well as their own bodies, to make it to the finish line.

Customers and staff at Avalon’s Leisure Centres raised more than £780 for the British Heart Foundation after a 6-hour-long cycle race.

Avalon Leisure, who runs Wells Leisure Centre, Strode Swimming Pool, Frome Leisure Centre and the Avalon Lifestyle Centre at Farrington Golf Club, hosted the inaugural ‘Race for Red’ as part of the charity’s National Wear Red Day on Friday 25^th February.

In total, £784.72 was raised for the company’s corporate charity partner. A special mention must go to Christian and Jess Lockyer who managed to raise £134 towards that total through a ‘Just Giving’ page asking for sponsorship.

The Leisure Centres will be racing against each other to see who can post the biggest accumulative distance over the 6 hour period. The race will be taking place between 1.00pm – 7.00pm.
