Wells Leisure Centre donates tables and chairs to Sierra Leone Orphanage

FurnitureOrphanageDonation1Wells Leisure Centre has donated its old cafeteria tables and chairs to an orphanage in Sierra Leone.

The centre, which is managed by Avalon Leisure, donated a total of 18 tables and 62 chairs following the refurbishment of its pool-side cafeteria.

Steve Argent, founder of OrphFund, said: “The tables and chairs have been put to great use!

“As soon as the kids saw them they were incredibly excited, as they really didn’t have any kind of furniture in the homes previously.

“As soon as they were assembled and went into the house the children were sat at them eating, drawing and playing. Thanks to Avalon Leisure for giving them a new lease of life in our orphanage.”

OrphFund is a volunteer based organisation which helps abandoned, orphaned and vulnerable children around the world.

They run grass-root, self-sustaining community projects that provide shelter, nutrition, health care, support, education and training, ensuring all children have a happy and bright future.

Avalon Leisure Technician Liam Hardy said: “I first heard about Steve through my grandmother (Rita Hardy), who knits hats for children at the orphanage.

“We’re delighted that our old furniture could be put to good use and it’s great we’ve been able to contribute in this way to such a brilliant cause.”
