Frome Leisure Centre hosts Mini Olympics

IMG_0779Frome Leisure Centre, managed by Avalon Leisure, has hosted its first ever annual Mini Aqua Splash Olympics.

More than 50 children between the ages of 5-13 years turned out to compete in a mixture of relay team events, all promoting water confidence and enjoyment in the pool.

The children, who were divided up into teams of 10-12 based on the Zoggs characters, were treated to a special appearance from Frome Leisure Centre’s Tigs the Tiger mascot.

Simone Benhayon, Frome Leisure Centre’s Swimming Development Manager, said: “The purpose of the mini gala was not to promote competition, but to encourage children to work in their teams to support everyone to finish the race.

“Every child that attended on the day displayed a very high level of sportsmanship and commitment toward swimming. Regardless of the placing every child was presented with either a medal or certificate for their outstanding achievement.

“Swimming is a skill for life, but more importantly it is something that can be enjoyed no matter what your age. The night was a great success as it was about sharing our passion for swimming.”
