Avalon Leisure Supports Top Local Biathlete

Great British biathlete John Sutton, who trains regularly at Strode Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre, is awaiting confirmation of a gold medal in the 2009 World Grand Prix Series.

It would complete a successful season for John, who competes in the 50+ Masters age group.

Having opened with a gold medal at the European Championships in Italy in July of last year, John went on to produced a superb, sustained effort to take the silver medal in a personal best time for the course at the World Championships.

John’s association with Avalon Leisure stretches back to 2001 when he enjoyed success in the County and District open water 1500m Championships.

Since then, with the support of Avalon Leisure, John has managed to establish himself as a regular member of the GB Biathle Team (part of the Modern Pentathlon Association).  During this period he has represented his country at major competitions in Monaco, Germany, Italy and Great Britain.

John said: “If it wasn’t for the generous support from Avalon Leisure’s policy of supporting members of the local community, fantastic training facilities and positive attitude from members of Avalon Leisure, it would be more difficult to attain my goals.”
