Frome Leisure Centre offers free memberships to recent school leavers

Frome Leisure Centre has teamed up with Bath University as part of a project aimed at helping young people from the Frome area to stay physically active after they leave school or college.

The project will run for three months, from July through to September, during which time recent local school and college leavers are invited to use the facilities at Frome Leisure Centre for free.

In return they will simply be asked to fill out questionnaires, provide basic information like age and height and attend fortnightly meetings with staff to talk about how their activities are going.

Support will also be provided to ensure that the youngsters get the most out of their activities and to help them meet any targets that they set themselves.

Dr. Stefan Koehn of Bath University said: "The aim of this project is to establish a routine of activity and healthy eating during a transition phase when young people move from school/college to university or work at an age when it is easier to change habits. Working with adolescents at this critical time in their lives will hopefully lead to a generally healthier lifestyle once this programme has been completed."

If you would like to take part in the project please visit Frome Leisure Centre reception by Wednesday 30th June. After passing on your details, you will be given a time and location to meet with researchers from Bath University, where you will be able to learn more about the project and set up your free membership.
