Wells Leisure Centre Introduces Parkour

Wells Leisure Centre, managed by Avalon Leisure, has introduced a brand new parkour class aimed at young people aged 13 years and older.

Avalon Leisure recently received funding through the Somerset Youth Opportunity Fund to purchase equipment for this activity.

Avalon Leisure Supports Top Local Biathlete

Great British biathlete John Sutton, who trains regularly at Strode Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre, is awaiting confirmation of a gold medal in the 2009 World Grand Prix Series.

It would complete a successful season for John, who competes in the 50+ Masters age group.

Jo Frith wins 2010 Somerset Swimmer of the Year

Jo Frith has been awarded 2010 Somerset Swimmer of the Year for her achievements in Masters and disability swimming.

Jo, who swims twice-a-week at Wells Leisure Centre, who are managed by Avalon Leisure, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the mid-1990's and took up swimming as part of a physiotherapy programme to help with her walking.

Frome Leisure Centre offers free memberships to recent school leavers

Frome Leisure Centre has teamed up with Bath University as part of a project aimed at helping young people from the Frome area to stay physically active after they leave school or college.

The project will run for three months, from July through to September, during which time recent local school and college leavers are invited to use the facilities at Frome Leisure Centre for free.

Frome triumph in Badminton encounter

Saturday 24th April saw Frome Leisure Centre take centre stage in the Badminton sporting calendar as it played host to the South West Regional finals of the National Leisure Centre Badminton Championships for the very first time.

Players from ten Leisure Centres across the south west region who successfully won through their local 1st rounds travelled to Frome with the aim of seeking a place in the national Finals on June 5th at the National Badminton Centre at Milton Keynes.
