Wells Leisure Centre donates tables and chairs to Sierra Leone Orphanage

FurnitureOrphanageDonation1Wells Leisure Centre has donated its old cafeteria tables and chairs to an orphanage in Sierra Leone.

The centre, which is managed by Avalon Leisure, donated a total of 18 tables and 62 chairs following the refurbishment of its pool-side cafeteria.

Steve Argent, founder of OrphFund, said: “The tables and chairs have been put to great use!

“As soon as the kids saw them they were incredibly excited, as they really didn’t have any kind of furniture in the homes previously.

Flying Laura's Blog: Silver Lining!

It only feels like yesterday that the British team were at the N.I.A. in Birmingham competing at the World Championships!

The competition kicked off on Thursday 17th November with the preliminary round and for me, my main goal was to finish in the top eight and qualify for Sunday’s final. As a team, the girls were aiming to qualify for the team finals the following evening. We were also hoping to secure two Olympic spots for Great Britain by qualifying two of us into the final.

I felt confident going into the competition as my training in the arena had been really positive and my preparations had all gone to plan. I had no regrets with my plans in the build-up to the competition and I was ready for it. The nerves had been building all week, but I did feel in control of them!

Strode Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre raises £433 for Children in Need

StrodeChildrenInNeed2Strode Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre has raised £433.69 for Children in Need.

Fitness Instructor Rich Hill challenged customers to join him in cycling non-stop for 8 hours on the centre’s brand new Studio Cycling bikes.

Duty Manager Emma Higgins said: “We would like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to everyone who took part.

“Our customers are always so supportive when we host this type of charity event, as we do on a regular basis throughout the year to raise money for our corporate charity partner The British Heart Foundation.

Toni reaches 20 years at Frome Leisure Centre

toni20yearsEveryone at Avalon Leisure would like to congratulate Toni Siejok on completing 20 years’ service at Frome Leisure Centre.

Toni started coaching gymnastics and trampolining to children back in 1991 and recently started running the regular Saturday kids’ club sessions.

Frome Leisure Centre Sports Development Duty Manager Ben Keates said: “We would like to thank Toni for all her commitment and hard work over the years. Toni has been a huge asset to both the centre and the local community in that time.”
