The annual Swimathon will be taking place between the 16th and a the 18th of April 2010.
What is Swimathon?
Swimathon is the world’s biggest fundraising swim.
Swimathon is a swimming fundraising challenge event. Choose your challenge, choose your local pool and invite your friends and family to either join you in the water or to sponsor you.
“Swimathon provides motivation and a personal challenge to swimmers nationwide. It also offers a goal to train for, a target to achieve and a great cause to support.”
Duncan Goodhew, Olympic gold medallist and Swimathon President.
Whatever your ability, Swimathon has a challenge for everyone. You could try the individual challenges of: 1.5k, 2.5k or the ultimate 5k. Alternatively you could join up with friends and family and take on the Team 5k challenge.
With 500 swimming pools throughout the UK hosting Swimathon this year, you can take part at a pool near you.
Don’t worry if you can’t make a session over the Swimathon weekend – you can always register for SimplySwim; which allows you to swim your own chosen distance, at any pool and at any time.
Swimathon history:
• 2010 will be its 24th year
• Over £32 million has been fundraised for various charities
• ½ million swimmers have taken part
This year Swimathon aims to raise over £1.5million for Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Swimathon Foundation.
